Melksham Town Bridge had issues with deteriorating concrete due to poor cover to the reinforcement on the underside of the footpath. In order to maintain traffic flow and provide safe access, the bridge needed to be reduced to a single lane of traffic controlled by lights. This allowed for a complex cantilevered scaffold to be designed and installed.
This in turn allowed the operatives safe access to the underside of the bridge. Another element of this work that needed close scrutiny was the environmental impact. In order to protect the water course, the scaffold was sheeted, boarded and double debris netted.
All of the breakout was carried out to ensure no water run off entered the river. Once the repairs were completed, the underside of the footpath was coated in a protective resin.
