At R&W we take the health and well-being of our employees extremely seriously - part of the reason we made the conscious reason to put 'employer' before 'contractor' in our vision is to be 'employer and contractor of choice'.
With one in three UK adults likely to experience a mental health problem in their working lifetime, R&W are introducing Mental First Aiders (MHFAs) across the business.
These volunteers are trained to be a point of contact for anyone who's concerned about, or are experiencing, a mental health issue or emotional distress, and be able to spot the first signs of someone suffering from ill mental health.
They’re there to give initial support through non-judgemental listening and guidance, and are able signpost the employee to the appropriate help if required.
Unfortunately a stigma still exists around mental health, making it hard to talk openly about our mental well being, particularly in the workplace. It's important to create a workplace culture where positive mental health is promoted with understanding and empathy from trained employees. So by introducing R&W MHFAs, we'll help encourage discussions about mental health, not just physical health.
